The crash happened around 11:35 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24 in Roslyn Heights.

That's when Nassau County Police say a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder being operated by a 24-year-old man was traveling southbound on Mineola Boulevard.

The Pathfinder then struck a Toyota RAV4 that was involved in an earlier crash, causing the RAV4 to hit a 21-year-old male pedestrian, according to police.

The victim suffered multiple injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital where he is in critical but stable condition, said police.

After an investigation was conducted, the driver of the Nissan Pathfinder, Oscar Fernando Suarez Marquez, was placed under arrest.

Suarez Marquez has been charged with:

  • Third-degree driving while intoxicated,
  • Third-degree assault.

He is due to be arraigned on Saturday, Dec. 25 at First District Court in Hempstead.
